“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”” Isaiah 6:8
In our human way of thinking and doing things, excellence starts with entrusting a work to the most qualified and experienced person. Hence many CEOs are out there looking for individuals with outstanding and unique profiles. They put a lot of care and much seriousness in selecting these people as they know how critical this is for their ambition of breaking financial records and achieving success. In a nutshell, CEOs look for able people to avoid spending their precious time empowering new hires to achieve excellence.
God, on the contrary, is after available men and women who are ready to serve him wholeheartedly. Whether they are qualified or not is none of his concern given that He is ever ready to empower them. This different way of seeing and doing things corroborates what He said in Isaiah 55: 9: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Though that approach might look for us, limited beings, a foolish one, the wisdom behind it is for no (wo)man to take the glory for whatever (s)he might have achieved for God. God takes foolish and weak things of the world to confound the wise and mighty things so that at the end, all the glory goes to Him alone (1 Cor. 1: 27-29)
I bet that in Isaiah’s days, there were very capable people who certainly thought they had all the required skills set to be successful in God’s vineyard. And yet, Isaiah heard the Almighty’s voice saying “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And, without any kind of hesitation, doubt or questioning, Isaiah boldly answered: “Here am I. Send me!”.
When you look at the cases of a number of people who did great works for God in the course of their calling, you will be shocked to notice that some, if not most of them, first started acknowledging that they are not skilled and competent to do the work. Gideon was one of them. But God encouraged them to go with whatever they think they have as strength because he knows He surely would empower and support them.
Now stop resisting God’s calling? Don’t you think it is now time to say like Isaiah “Here am I. Send me!” (Hebrew 3:15). God bless you!
