“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” 1 Corinthians 16:13
Sometimes, we live a casual spiritual life because we have little to no knowledge of what we actually carry. Once we get more aware of who we are, of whom we are sons and daughters, it becomes easier to make the choices that will support the fulfilment of God’s promises in our lives.
I heard about the story of a young Nigerian girl; she was approached by a man who was ready to pay her US$ 24,243 just to sleep with her once. If she were to look at her financial and social situation, she would have seen in that offer a golden opportunity and hurriedly accept it. But she refused. The man raised his offer to US$72,729, then to US$121,215 and eventually capped it at US$ 484,860 (200 million naira), but the girl stayed firm and refused to defile herself and compromise her love for God for money, no matter how big this is.
When she informed her Pastor about this, he was very impressed by her attitude and asked: “But why have you refused that huge amount?”. The girl replied: “For that man to be ready to offer me that much, it means I carry something that is valuable. I won’t give in his game”.
After the girl had refused the man’s highest offer, the man told her: “Now I’m left with no option but go back to my village and prepare for my sick father’s burial. In fact, my dad, a very rich man, is on the verge of dying and in the spirit, we discovered that if I, his son, could sleep at least once with you, my father would live longer and, as a result, yours would be shortened”
The girl blessed and glorified the Lord for allowing her to display the right attitude i.e. standing firm and refusing to enter a deal that was meant to condemn her to untimely death.
It takes the full consciousness of who we genuinely are for us to be able to overlook all baits the devil will set before us to take us away from the glorious destiny the Lord has for us. Today many are going through difficult situations because, at a certain point in their lives, they unconsciously traded their glorious future for very petty things. May the Almighty Lord restore you if you are one of those, in the name of Jesus!
