“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy” Proverbs 28:13

The word of God is full of evidence of the mercy of God. However, we human beings including many Christians are willing to trivialize the mercy of God by hiding our sins and nourishing them secretly. It would be wise for all Christians to recognize that the sins we do not confess have many consequences including the consequences of opening a door to Satan. The experience of Judas was clear evidence.

Judas is one of the twelve disciples of Christ and as a disciple of Christ, this man had received the same training received by all other disciples (Luke 9:1-2). He had seen almost all the miracles and power of Jesus and the most important one is that he had many opportunities to hear Jesus preaching about the importance of confessing sins. Sadly, this man had decided to hide his sin and as a consequence opened a door to the enemy with that sin. What was that door? Judas was greedy.

The book of John narrated the story of the event of Bethany where Mary poured an expensive perfume on Jesus (John 12:1-8) and Judas was suggesting that they could have sold that perfume and given it to the poor. The Apostle John says clearly that Judas criticized the act of Mary because Judas was a thief and as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. The interpretation of the story revealed that some people in the team were aware of that attitude in Judas. With the great amount of time Judas had spent with Jesus, he did not take that opportunity to treat that issue with the one who can forgive sin (Jesus). Unfortunately, John is not the only one who noticed that attitude in Judas. Satan also realized that this man could do anything for money and had seen it as a door (Luke 22:1-6). Indeed, Satan used it to enter him, and Judas sold Jesus to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver (Luke 22:1-6).

For many of us, our opening door could be anger, lies, adultery, gossiping, fornication, etc. Let’s bring them to the feet of God, confess them, and turn away from them otherwise it is a door Satan can use and destroy us.
