“Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”” John 1:47
What type of person are you genuinely? Someone that cons people out of their savings, a cantankerous person, an authentic Christian, a peace maker? Are you of those who take credit for the good things in their lives and who cast blame on others for the bad things that befall them? Do you rather have a chameleon personality and easily identify with your environment thereby making it difficult to establish your actual spiritual DNA?
Most people would answer the question of who they genuinely are, considering their own perspective and, to some extent, what others say or think about them. Very few would ask themselves what God says about them. And yet, this is what matters most because they may deceive themselves and others might only know that side of them that they actually want them to know. Only God has a 360 degrees knowledge of who we truly are, whether he says it or remains silent about it. We have a good illustration of this in Luke 12. Both the man and the society considered him like a rich man. “But God said to him, ‘You fool! (…)” (Luke 12:20)
God knows the real you in the slightest details. Just look at how, to the bewilderment of the Samaritan woman, Jesus painted to her her own profile. I guess how shocked she was and had to confess “Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did” (John 4:29). Also, talking about Cornelius in Acts 10:2, the Bible says he is “a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always”. In Luke 2:25, Simeon is described as a just and devout man.
In our reference verse, Jesus only saw Nathaniel coming and he spontaneously exclaimed and shared this very wonderful testimony about him: “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit”.
If God were to place a word about you today, what would it be? Would his feedback be all positive or would he rather spot things that will require that you take some actions? Remember, only God’s testimony about you matters. Therefore, what about examining yourself thoroughly today and boldly deciding to amend any aspect of your life that requires it! Note this: God is faithful and fully willing to help! Don’t miss this opportunity.
