“He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more.” Matthew 25:16
Defined as use of imagination or original ideas to create something, creativity and inventiveness can be interchangeably used. True to the saying that necessity is the mother of invention, when there is a need and a human being’s assessment of existing options concludes that there is either none or there are only ineffective ones, our brain is triggered to find solutions.
At the beginning of the world, God created trees. But we know for sure that he did not create chairs, stools, benches, for Adam, his wife and, later, their children to sit on. It certainly took them the work of their imagination to realize that with trees cut down in a certain way, dried up and assembled, they could do a number of things. Likewise, it is thanks to the imagination of people like Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and others that we can have cars and computers today, and that billions of people can easily communicate worldwide today. Time and memory would fail me if I were to continue listing people who impacted this world, thanks to imagination.
In the parable of talents, let’s undertake a journey in the brain of the servants with five and two talents. Hopefully each of them looked at the amount, scanned the environment they were operating in to see what was needed but that nobody or very few people were offering. That which today’s elaborated business vocabulary calls market scan or survey might have opened their mind to some raw ideas which they fine-tuned until they became business plans. They then translated the plan into tangible actions which ultimately earned them the Master’s appraisal in Matthew 25:21: “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.”
People say that the world has never been as full of opportunities as it is today. Paradoxically though, scarcely had the world recorded such a huge number of poor people since it was created. The cause of this is to be traced to lack of creativity and this consumerism mindset that seems to have annihilated passion for effort in so many.
God can do everything but there are things you need to exercise your creativity to achieve. Make up your mind today and see how the Almighty will take you to heights! Remain blessed.
