"With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?" Number 12:8
As children of God, we normally don't fear as it is written "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear...". However, our lead verse for this week is reporting God being surprised that Miriam and Aaron were not afraid. To say God was surprised, can look strange, but before you cast the first stone at me, please follow me for a while.
We realize that God expects whoever thought of speaking against Moses, to be afraid because:
• “With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches”
God in His sovereignty has decided not to use riddles, images, or any other figure of speech to communicate with Moses. With Moses, God calls a spade a spade. You may not understand the depth of such a dimension until you read the preceding verses 6 and 7 of the same chapter where God said He communicates with all prophets via a vision and a dream, except for Moses.
• “And the similitude of the Lord shall he behold”
Moses could see the form of God. I need you to picture it right now before we go any further. God allows Moses to see His form; Moses was taken to a realm, where he could know this is God talking to him.
For these two reasons, God expected Miriam and Aaron to tremble at the idea of speaking against Moses. It does not matter what they thought he did wrong, the mere fact of criticizing someone God has given such a privileged access, depicts their spiritual blindness. Here is what God meant: Are you guys so blind that you can't understand this man is no longer your mate? Do you consider a man I have given such a grace, to be just your fellow man? If I were in your shoes, I would be afraid to speak against such a man.
It is true, we all are children of God, purchased with the same price. But let us not fool ourselves, in the kingdom of the God; the more God invest in you, the more precious you become to Him, and the more careful those surrounding you should be, while interacting with you.
God bless your week!
