“Come, I will make you fishers of men” is both an invitation and a process. Jesus was not only calling His disciples to follow Him; He was committing Himself to make them into something useful for the Master’s purpose. Becoming effective in God’s hands is a journey with clear stages.

First: Be — the natural man.

Every believer begins here. The natural man is who we are by birth: limited by human understanding, driven by self, and shaped by culture, habits, and instincts. At this stage, there is calling, but little capacity. God does not reject the natural man; He calls him. The invitation always comes before the transformation.

Second: Become — the carnal man in transformation.

After the call comes the process of becoming. This is the most demanding stage. The believer is no longer merely natural, but not yet fully spiritual. Old patterns clash with new convictions. Transformation happens intentionally and is never accidental. It takes place under the leadership of a teaching priest, through the ministry of the Word, and by the active work of the Holy Spirit. Scripture reminds us that “they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah” (Ezra 6:14). Growth is accelerated when truth is taught, correction is accepted, and the Spirit is obeyed.

Third: Deploy — the spiritual man.

Transformation is not endless. God does not shape us simply for personal improvement but for mission. The goal of transformation is deployment. When transformation has done its work, the believer becomes a witness. A transformed life carries authority, clarity, and power. The spiritual man is not just informed; he is sent. He does not only know the truth; he demonstrates it. To sustain power and maturity in this deployment phase, spiritual requirements are essential, beginning with the ministry of prayer. Prayer sustains intimacy with God, sharpens spiritual sensitivity, and preserves humility. Without prayer, maturity fades and power diminishes.

Today, Jesus is still calling. If you do not yet know Him, He invites you to come as you are, to follow Him, to be transformed by His love, and to discover a new life with purpose—one that reflects His truth and brings hope to others.
