“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” Matthew 5: 14

The first word God speaks into the universe is a command to establish Light. “ Let there be light. ” At that moment, darkness disappears, and creation suddenly gains meaning. This light does more than simply brighten the scene; it organizes everything, turning chaos into ordered life.

In the New Testament, the word for light captures the idea of brightness that both reveals and gives life. Whenever the Bible speaks of light, it points to God’s own presence, which makes truth clear and gives it shape. This divine light reaches believers in two vital ways: revelation and wisdom. Paul prays that the Father will grant the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we might truly know Him and live out what we see. Revelation acts like a floodlight, illuminating the path ahead and revealing what’s to come. In contrast, wisdom is like a headlamp, shining just enough light to guide each step and shield us from unseen dangers. Revelation offers a broad vision, helping us understand the bigger picture. Wisdom, however, provides practical insight for daily decisions, ensuring we navigate challenges safely. Together, they empower us to move forward with clarity, and discernment. The believer needs both in order to be fully equipped to navigate through the maze of life.

Jesus then turns to His followers and says, “You are the light of the world… a city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Just as a lamp placed on a high hill is meant to be seen, so Christ’s life in us should stand out in a dark world. When we allow His revelation to shape our convictions and His wisdom to guide our choices, our everyday acts of kindness, honesty, and courage begin to glow like streetlights, helping others find their way home. This light is not just for us but shines outward, inviting others to experience God’s truth and life. It breaks through despair, confusion, and fear, offering hope and direction to those still wandering in darkness. In a world often overshadowed by uncertainty and pain, this light brings healing and restoration. It reminds us that no matter how deep the darkness, God’s light can never be overcome. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect that light boldly and consistently, making a difference in the lives around us.

Will you open every aspect of your life to that light and let Jesus shine through you today?
