“(...) we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” — 2 Chronicles 20:12

One day, a man of God was driving to a remote village to preach the gospel. Along the way, he noticed that his fuel gauge had dropped into the reserve zone. “I will refuel at the next village,” he thought. However, when he arrived, there was no fuel available. Concerned but determined, he continued to the following village, only to face the same situation. With many kilometers still ahead of him, anxiety began to rise.

He stopped and prayed, “Lord, what shall I do now?” In his heart, he sensed the Lord saying, “My son, take your eyes off the fuel gauge and keep driving.” Choosing obedience over fear, he stopped staring at the gauge and continued his journey. Somehow, he safely reached his destination.

What a lesson for us! Too often, we focus so intensely on our problems that we unintentionally magnify them. As a result, our courage fades, our faith weakens, and discouragement takes over. God's instruction to His servant was simple yet profound: stop focusing on the problem and start trusting the One who is greater than the problem.

Psalm 34:5 declares, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” The direction of our gaze often determines the condition of our hearts.

A similar situation confronted King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. A powerful coalition of armies advanced against Judah. Humanly speaking, the situation was hopeless. The enemy was larger and stronger. Yet Jehoshaphat did not surrender to fear. Instead, he led the nation to seek God, confessing, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

That prayer moved the heart of God. Through His prophet, the Lord responded: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.” (v.15). What seemed impossible became an opportunity for God to display His power and faithfulness.

Perhaps today you are facing a challenge that appears overwhelming. The question is not how big the problem is, but where your eyes are fixed. Are you focused on the obstacle or on the God who is able to overcome it?

Look beyond the problem. Lift your eyes to the Lord. He has never failed those who trust in Him.
