“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

Beloved,

I believe that 1 Corinthians 10:13 is one of those Bible verses every Christian should know by heart. It serves as a powerful anchor in moments of temptation and trial. Whether we like it or not, our earthly journey as Christians will include temptations. Yet, knowing that God will never allow us to be tempted beyond our capacity provides strong encouragement to resist and overcome.

In his novel Things Fall Apart (p. 47), Nigerian author Chinua Achebe wrote: “A child's fingers are not scalded by a piece of hot yam which its mother puts into its palm.” Like me, you may remember how carefully your mother handled hot food before giving it to you. She would test the heat, move it from hand to hand, blow on it repeatedly, and only pass it to you when she was sure you could bear it.

This motherly care beautifully illustrates God's love for His children. As the Lord declares in Isaiah 49:15: “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.”

If earthly mothers are willing to go to such lengths to protect their children, how much more will our Heavenly Father care for us? Scripture assures us that:

  1. God will never forget us.

  2. He will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability.

  3. He neither tempts anyone nor can He be tempted by evil (James 1:13).

Beloved, what temptation are you facing today? Whatever it may be, trust that God has already equipped you with the strength needed to overcome it. Otherwise, He would not have permitted it. Instead of fearing temptation, view it as an opportunity to grow stronger in faith, character, and spiritual endurance. Every victory over temptation reduces our vulnerabilities and increases our confidence in God's power at work within us.

Let us therefore stand firm, trusting in the faithfulness of God, who always provides a way through every trial.

Prayer : Lord, grant us the strength, wisdom, and courage to overcome every temptation and to trust fully in Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
