“For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it.” Job 33:14 NIV
We are amazed when we read in the Bible how God spoke to some (wo)men who heard him audibly. Hear what God said about Moses “(…) if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, (…) With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches (…)” Numbers 12:6-8. Isn’t that amazing?
Sometimes, we think that the season when God speaks is gone. Nothing is farther from the truth. Even today God is still speaking, and He is ready to do so through any vessel that avails itself. The issue is that we so much tolerate (spiritual) noise around us and are hardly ready/willing to pay the price of being alone to hear his still small voice. We are too distracted by our day to day needs and obligation that we hardly give him time and attention to speak or decode messages He delivers to us in dreams, in the reading of his word or through events taking place around us.
Some time ago, my family experienced a few difficult events that shook us seriously and left us with numerous “whys”. We felt unprepared, unwarned, and disarmed until God revealed to one of his servants a set of dreams we had and to which we gave no strong attention. The man of God concluded “God has been speaking to you in a variety of ways to warn you and make you pray more seriously to prevent these issues from materializing. But you had not understood the warning and hence the issues He was trying to protect you against eventually came to pass”.
Almost three years ago, while discussing with a friend who was still single though advanced in age, she said she was waiting to hear God about her marriage. I then asked: “what if God has already spoken and you did not pay attention?”
My brother and sister, maybe you are waiting on God to take a course of action and the more you pray, the heavier is God’s silence. My question to you is: “What if He has already spoken and you did not lend an attentive ear to it?”
May God, in his mercy, remind you what he has said about that matter you took to him.
