“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24
Beloved,
Our base verse is a powerful promise from our heavenly father, an emphatic assurance that he knows us and can anticipate our need; it also conveys an unchallenged guarantee that He hears us. In that sense, Isaiah 65:24 echoes Matthew 6:8 which reads “(…) your Father knows what you need before you ask him” .
The question here then is this: so long as my Father already knows what I need and since he can even hear me before I speak, what is the usefulness of Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” and of James 4:2 “You don’t have the things you want, because you don’t pray for them”? Instead of praying God, can’t I simply save my energy and invest it on something else?
Brethren, simply put, prayer is talking to God. Therefore, it cannot be overlooked in our Christian journey. It is through communication that relationships are built and strengthened and our walk with God is no exception. In fact, one key dimension of our Heavenly Father that most impactful men of God attest to is that He loves his children and enjoys fellowshipping with them. Let’s imagine what our Christian life would be without that important bridge the Almighty has created to establish a bond between Himself and human beings? Prayer is therefore a great privilege God has given human beings to relate with him, to connect our hearts to God’s heart.
We read in Exodus 24:18 about Moses: “He stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights” . Again Exodus 34:28 reads “Moses was there with the Lord 40 days and 40 nights without food or water” . Even though the time Moses spent in the presence of the LORD was to get the 10 commandments and receive a set of instructions about a variety of things, I believe that God could have provided all those instructions within a shorter period. For him to spend that time with Moses, it is obvious that he was enjoying being with Moses and conversing with him.
With that understanding, we should not only pray, but we should pray with a fellowship mentality, not a demand attitude. If we could simply invest in enjoying fellowshipping with God, He surely will give us any other thing we ask for as a byproduct of prayer.
