I am not a golfer, but when Dr. Oral Roberts asked me to play a round with him I thought I’d give it a try. We were in Boca Raton, Florida, as guests of Bill Swad, a great soul winner who built one of America’s largest automotive empires in Columbia, Ohio.

I told Oral, “I really don’t know how to play this game.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll teach you,” the evangelist replied.

What I learned that day, however, was much more than how to use a putter or get out of a sand trap. We talked at length about the working of the Holy Spirit.

Riding in his electric cart I said, “Oral, I want you to give me some advice.”

“On what topic?” he inquired.

“Well, you have been in the healing ministry all of these years. Others have fallen by the wayside. How have you kept yourself?”

Oral laughed and said, “ Benny, I haven’t kept myself, the Lord has.” He said, “Listen, I’ve made my share of mistakes – but remember, the Lord does not give up on his saints easily. He holds on to us. He is very long-suffering.” Then Oral said, “And as long as you walk with Him, He will hold you better than you can hold Him.”

The great evangelist reminded me that Moses saw the Messiah rather than “the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.” (Heb. 11:26). He said, “Benny, you’re going to face many struggles, but never take your eyes off of the Master.”
