Root Of Hope

Root Of Hope

More than a decade after the first Weekly Bread post in French, we decided to compile the posts, group them by theme, and publish them as physical books under the title “Building on Christ, the Rock”. After the release of volume #1 in 2017, the second volume in 2023, we released the third volume in June 2025 while currently working on the fourth volume.

Since the first volume, we identified among the readers of the Weekly Bread posts a brother printer (let’s call him James). We charged him with this work as a way of contributing to develop his business (printing firm) and extend his field of expertise.

From the very first edition, James decided to operate, not simply as a service provider but also as a partner in this initiative. Thus, in addition to completing the printing work in alignment with the standards in this field, James has consistently been covering partly the printing costs of the 1000 copies we release each time.

During a recent discussion I had with him, James opened up and shared with me this testimony. According to him, an election was scheduled to appoint members of the association of the printers in his country. Approached by several of his peers to occupy the position of Chairman, he consistently declined the offer, refusing to occupy the slightest position of responsibility in this umbrella organization of printers. But one of his peers, whose identity he does not know until now, stepped in the discussions, used all his personal influence and managed to get him elected to the position of Chairman of the association. As a result, James is now regularly consulted and cases of breach of professional ethics in the printing field are regularly referred to him for advice and arbitration. By reason of that position, James was at home one day when they brought him a passport printed in his name. He did not take any part in the stressful process that others have to go through before getting their passports. From that moment till now, he has already represented his country in meetings in Ghana, Nigeria, Mali and Cote d’Ivoire. He explained to me that before each of his travel, he would receive a call almost three days before a meeting and be handed a flight ticket. God has taken him from his modest position and has been promoting and increasing him steadily since then.

As if that was not enough, a few weeks ago, the government minister in charge of the printing sector visited James’s modest workshop and, after some discussions, he informed James that moving forward the government would be sending students trained in professional printing schools owned by the Government to his workshop to acquire practical skills necessary to perfect their training.

It was with a voice imbued with emotion that James shared this testimony with me, assured as he was that his decision to support the work of the Lord was not unrelated to this outpouring of grace in his life and in his profession.

The Lord is faithful, and no one can beat him in the art of giving; whosoever has the advancement of his work at heart therefore puts himself at the heart of God's attention. The choice is always ours and once we take the step of faith, God takes care of the remaining.
