Root of hope

There was a Pastor whose ministry carried the unmistakable hand of God. The sick were healed when he laid hands on them; barren women became mothers; wonders were so commonplace in his meetings that people traveled from far just to be in one service.

Yet, behind the scenes, there was a quiet pain. Years into marriage, he and his wife had no child of their own, despite prayers, doctors, and every effort they tried. But the Pastor did not grow bitter. He kept serving. He kept laying hands. He kept believing for others, even while waiting for God to move in his own home.

One Sunday, during service, his wife sat beside him as usual. Midway through the worship, without a word, she stood up, walked to the exit, and went home. It was so unlike her that the congregation noticed. The Pastor noticed too. But he stayed focused. He finished what God had given him to do. After service, he hurried home. But what he found surprised him.

His wife was in the kitchen, busy cooking. The table was set with her finest dishes, the ones reserved for very important guests. Everything was in place, as though she was expecting royalty. Before the pastor could ask, she came to him. She helped him take off his suit, led him to the table, and then did something he had never seen before. She knelt down before him, tears in her eyes, and said:

“Man of God… my house is on fire. Please pray for me.”

In that moment, the same anointing that had healed strangers and lifted others came upon the Pastor powerfully. He laid hands on his wife and prayed. And God heard him. A few months later, she delivered a bouncing baby.

What can we learn from that experience?

For years, the Pastor’s wife had related to him only as “my husband.” Familiarity had quietly built a wall. She saw the grace work for everyone else, but not for herself. But the day she chose to honor the anointing above the familiarity, the day she called him “Man of God” instead of just “my husband”, the heavens responded.

Beloved, the anointing you recognize is the anointing that will work for you. Don’t sit under a grace and treat it as ordinary. Don’t watch God move for others while you remain unchanged because of familiarity. Instead, honor it. Connect to it. Position yourself under it for your miracle may be waiting on the other side of your honor. God bless you.
