A brother once shared with me the story of two ten year old boys. Every evening, their favorite moment was when national television aired announcements about people who had passed away, including details of their burial programs. No matter what they were doing, the boys would stop, rush to the living room, sit comfortably before the television, and allow nothing to distract them.

Among all the information given about the deceased, one detail fascinated them most: the age at death. Once that number appeared on the screen, the boys would eagerly calculate how many years they still had before reaching that age. They found great amusement in this exercise and repeated it for years—until one evening.

That night, the image of a child their own age appeared on the screen. Instinctively, they looked at each other, rose from their seats, and walked away. The “ game ” ended that day and was never resumed. Their fascination turned abruptly into fear.

No one questioned them about what happened within them that evening. Yet it is easy to imagine that, until then, they had believed themselves far too young to die. That moment confronted them with a disturbing truth: even at their tender age, death was possible.

Dear brothers and sisters, the most frightening aspect of death for adults like us is not the physical act of dying, nor even the question of the legacy we leave behind—important as that may be. What should truly concern us is how we meet death: whether we have given our lives to Christ and lived in a way that honors Him.

It does not matter how sinful you think you are. It does not matter how much time you feel you have wasted, or how much—or how little—you possess in this world. If today you choose to turn to Christ, to follow Him wholeheartedly and confess Him without shame, His arms are wide open to receive you as His child. And heaven will rejoice over that decision.

Since none of us knows the day we will leave this world, do not postpone this choice. Scripture reminds us: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Tomorrow may come—but what if it is too late?

God bless you.
